Sumar Shihada
Sumar Shihada is a Syrian novelist and journalist, born in Latakia, Syria in 1989. He studied Electronic Engineering and Communications, before working as a journalist for a number of Arabic newspapers, magazines and websites, such as the Romman magazine and the Ultra Iraq website. His first novel The Corn Fields (2017) won the Sudanese Tayeb Salih Prize for Literary Creativity in 2016 as an unpublished manuscript, later published in 2017. His second novel The Abandoning (2019) was awarded the Egyptian Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature in 2021.
