The White Minaret

Yaa'rab al-Eissa

The White Minaret explores the complex relationship between power and corruption in its many facets, through the story of Mike, a young Syrian man who aspires to power and influence and sells his soul to the devil, then wishes to get it back again and make a legendary ending for himself. The novel describes the game of grasping for money and power, and the exploitation of different crises in the region to amass ill-gotten gains. It takes the reader on a journey through the sad history of the contemporary East, with its deeply entrenched corruption and artificially created wars.
