Celebrating the 2018 shortlist in Abu Dhabi

To celebrate the six authors and novels that have been shortlisted for the 2018 International Prize for Arabic Fiction, there is a series of events being hosted in Abu Dhabi next week.

Five of the shortlisted authors Aziz Mohammed, Ibrahim Nasrallah, Shahad Al Rawi, Walid Shurafa and Dima Wannous will discuss their work with writer and broadcaster Yassin Adnan at a special event hosted by NYU Abu Dhabi Institute and Emirates Writers’ Union at the National Theatre, Abu Dhabi at 7.30pm, Sunday 22 April. On Monday 23 April, Walid Shurafa will be speaking at NYU Abu Dhabi about his shortlisted novel Heir of the Tombstones. Shurafa has been invited to speak at the university by the co-curator of Permanent Temporariness, an exhibition at the NYU Abu Dhabi art gallery which focuses on the life of refugees, in particular, the Palestinians, which is the focus of his novel. Following the announcement of the winning novel on the evening of Tuesday 24 April, the winning author and the other five shortlisted authors will take part in events on the opening day of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, Wednesday 25th April. From 7-9.30pm the authors will be at the Sea of Culture Foundation Stand for a Salon event (the stand will be announced).
