Jamal Mahjoub is a Sudanese-English writer and novelist. He was born in London and grew up in Khartoum, Sudan. He won the Guardian African Short Story Prize in 1991 for The Cartographer's Angel and the 2004 French Prix de L'Astrolabe for his novel The Carrier (1998). He writes in English and three of his novels have been translated into Arabic: Wings of Dust (1994), Travelling with Djinns (2003) and In The Hour of Signs (1996). He lives in Holland.
