František Ondráš

František Ondráš is a Czech academic and translator, born in Opočno in 1964. He is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, Prague, in the Czech Republic, specialising in Arabic Literature and Culture. He has translated works of Arabic literature such as the Maqamat of Al-Hamadhani, and short stories, into Czech, and is a simultaneous interpreter between Arabic and Czech. He is the author of numerous studies on the art of modern Arabic narrative, including: Realistic Style in the Works of Gha’ib Tu’mah Farman (1988); The Egyptian Novel and Short Story in the 1980s and 1990s (2003); The Image of Ancient Egypt in the Modern Egyptian Novel (2008); The Narrative Documentation of the Self in the Works of Sonallah Ibrahim (2008); The Arabic Novel – the Growth and Development of the Literary Genre (2017); and The Use of Aspects of Cultural Heritage in the Omani Novel (2023). Ondráš has participated in several conferences about Arabic language and literature in the Arab world and European countries. He is also a member of EURAMAL, the European Association for Modern Arabic Literature.
