Rana Suhail Idriss
Rana Suhail Idriss studied Human Sciences at the American University of Beirut and higher studies at the University of New York. Since 1985, she has been director of Dar al-Adab publishing house, founded by her father, Dr Suhail Idriss, in 1953. Dar al-Adab specialises in the Arabic novel and novels in translation, and also publishes dictionaries and the Al-Adab magazine. Rana Idriss is a member of several judging panels, including the panel of the Qadmoos Prize for the best French novel, organized in co-operation with the Book Office of the French Embassy in Lebanon; the Beirut Story Prize in co-operation with the German Goethe Institute in Beirut; and the Najwa Barakat Workshop Prize (“how do we write a novel”) in co-operation with the Bahraini Ministry of Culture. She was awarded the King of Morocco’s Prize (rank of commander). Dar al-Adab has won the Prize for the best Arab publisher awarded by the Sharjah Book Fair and was shortlisted for the Sheikh Zayyed Book Award for best Arab publisher.
